Taylor
Taylor Swift was a rarity in the world of pop music: she was the sole celebrity who transitioned from the traditional to the mainstream and then to be a global pop culture icon. Swift removed her roots in the country as if they were just a second skin revealing that she was perhaps the savviest pop-oriented singer/songwriter of her time, someone who was able to harness the current zeitgeist and make it personal and also perform in the opposite direction. Swift's early songs, including the neo celebration of Tim McGraw, showed off her talents. However, her album Fearless showed a singer-songwriter who was re-discovering herself and gaining a huge following. The album ended up with a lot of reach not just in the U.S. where it racked up six platinum singles on the strength of the Top Ten hits Love Story and You Belong with Me but throughout the world, with a particular success with Australia, U.K. Canada and Australia. The Swift's Speak Now album released two years ago, consolidated her prior success, and catapulted Swift into the spotlight. She grew in popularity over the course of her three subsequent albums - Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift was now firmly established within an industry she felt was hers to be. Although she slowed down her production with folklore, and Evermore albums in the year 2020, she was nevertheless leading the way in pop music.
